Lights, Caravarggio, Action

Recently I began a search for interesting ways to experiment with light. I came across an artist Michelangelo Caravaggio, who was an Italian artist known for his paintings that combine a realistic observation of the human state, both physical and emotional, with a dramatic use of lighting, which had a formative influence on the artwork. Painting light onto a canvas is much like film as the lighting in frame of a film can help paint out or portray the emotions the characters are feeling in scene to the audience.

During my search one painting in particular stood out to me, “the entombment of christ”. This painting spoke to me because it sparked the question what would happen if this painting was a moving visual. Would the difference in lighting or angle have any effect on the emotions displayed by the characters in the frame? This question brought me to my first experimental test film using lighting.
